New Year’s Resolutions?

You could make resolutions concerning weight loss or time management.  Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) was an American preacher and theologian who knew that all resolutions not grounded in God’s will were doomed to failure.  Here are just a couple of the 70 for which he is known:

42. Resolved, frequently to renew the dedication of myself to God, which was made at my baptism; which I solemnly renewed, when I was received into the communion of the church; and which I have solemnly re-made this twelfth day of January, 1723.

43. Resolved, never henceforward, till I die, to act as if I were any way my own, but entirely and altogether God’s, agreeable to what is to be found in Saturday, January 12, 1723.

See more of his resolutions here.

Wednesday Evening Drive-Time Prayer

Have you ever had a bad day at work and just wish someone would pray for you?  Is there something weighing on you that you wish someone would pray for?

On Wednesday evenings, from 5-6 pm, our doors are open.  We will have people waiting who would love to pray for you.  Please stop in.  No appointments are necessary.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.–Hebrews 4:16

Wednesday Evening Bible Study at 6:30 pm!

In order to specifically minister to men and ladies without adding another commitment to already busy schedules, one of our members came up with the great idea of sometimes splitting up into a men’s group and a ladies’ group.  In response to this, we will be having a slightly different format on Wednesday evenings in January through March.
We will be doing a ten-week study of Dane Ortlund’s book, Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers.  A study Guide will be made available.  The suggested donation is $15 to cover the cost.  Also, it is certainly not obligatory, but I’d like to recommend reading his book.  The group discussions may be more fruitful if you have that foundation.
We will meet at 6:30pm together in a large group to pray and to watch a 5-10 minute video of Dane Ortlund speaking about the gentle and lowly heart of our Saviour.  Then we will split into men’s and ladies’ groups for the study.  Cindy Stezig will lead the women’s study, and Pastor Doug will lead the men’s.

Please make plans to join us!

Sunday Morning Adult Bible Study

Have you ever wondered why we study the Old Testament?  Except for the 10 Commandments and the Psalms, you might wonder what all that ancient Jewish stuff has to do with us.  Through the end of January, Justin Smith will continue teaching his study Christ in the Old Testament.  If you haven’t already, please join us for Justin’s excellent presentation of how the entire Old Testament points to Jesus’ coming.
